Speakers Corner ( Hyde Park) Bulb Planting

Friday 24th & Saturday 25th January

The Royal Parks have a fun volunteering opportunity to plant bulbs ‘in the green’ at Speakers corner.

Speakers’ Corner is a traditional site for public speeches and debates since the mid 1800’s when protests and demonstrations took place in Hyde Park and is located on the north-east edge of Hyde Park, nearest Marble Arch and Oxford Street. Historic figures such as Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin and George Orwell were known to often use the area to demonstrate free speech.

It is also one of the busiest and most used entrances into the Park. We have several fenced areas that we would love to fill with welcoming colour. Planting spring bulbs including bluebells and snowdrops will not only create some fabulous displays, but also provide spring nectar and pollen for our resident insects.

We will be meeting at Speaker’s Corner – look out for the green “Help Your Parks” flag.

Please wear sturdy shoes, hiking shoes are ideal, and please bring a waterproof jacket/ appropriate clothing for the weather on the day. We ask that you can bring a bottle of water with you on the day and if possible a reusable cup for tea and coffees (we are trying to reduce our use of plastic!).

All tools, training and equipment will be provided.

Please note, this activity does require bending down and kneeling.
